How can we help?
Getting started
Storysea is a place to read, write and share novels and fanfiction. It pairs a calm reader and a proper writing studio with the social side of stories: follows, thoughts on chapters, chats, groups and collections.
Yes. Storysea is free during the alpha: there’s no billing and there are no paid plans.
Yes. Storysea is in alpha, so you can create an account today, but expect rough edges and frequent changes. You need to be at least 14 to join.
Yes. You can create your account with an email and password or with Google, and connect or disconnect Google later in Settings → Account → Connected accounts.
Open your profile menu and choose Report a bug, or tell us on our Discord. Feedback about what to build next is just as welcome.
Reading
Go to Settings → Accessibility to pick one of five reader fonts (Crimson Pro, Baskervville, Lato, Atkinson Hyperlegible or OpenDyslexic), a text size, and light or dark mode. On your phone you can also change them from inside the reader.
Yes. Your progress is saved as you read, and the stories you’re in the middle of wait for you under Continue reading on your Home page.
Thoughts are comments that live on a specific paragraph of a chapter. You can reply, like, mark a thought as a spoiler and even add a GIF.
Mature-rated stories are only available to readers who are 18 or older and who choose to see them. You can turn off Hide mature content in Settings → Content and social.
Writing & publishing
Yes. Choose Import on the Create page and upload a .docx or .epub file, and Storysea sets it up as a story you can edit and publish. The only rule is that the work has to be yours.
Absolutely. Every story is marked as Original or Fan Fiction, and both get the same reader, the same tools and the same chance to be found. You’re responsible for having the right to publish what you post.
You do. You keep ownership of everything you create, and you choose the license each story is published under. Our Terms of Use explain the details.
Not yet. Reading and everything social work on any screen, but the Writer needs a screen at least 1,200 px wide, so writing happens on a laptop or desktop for now.
Yes. In the Writer you can publish a chapter right away or schedule it for a date and time in your time zone.
Account & privacy
Self-serve deletion isn’t available yet. Email hello@storysea.io and we’ll delete your account on request.
Not yet. A full self-serve export is planned. Until then, email us and we’ll help where we can.
